The history of St Mary’s RFC goes back over 100 years. Formerly a social and business community linked back to St Mary On The Quay School in central Bristol.
During the 1950s, as part of the Bristol Rugby Football combination, St Mary’s RFC became a member of the consortium moving their playing grounds close to Filton Airfield, in North Bristol (later South Gloucestershire).
Later re-development of that site led to St Mary’s RFC being able to procure their own land, from a farmer, in-between Patchway and Almondsbury. Here they were able to develop a rudimentary clubhouse alongside the playing fields.
As Bradley Stoke became established during the 1980’s and land prices were rising St Mary’s RFC were able to capitalise on that investment and moved to the current facility on Trench Lane between Bradley Stoke and Winterbourne.
The facility was designed to be able to service both the playing & social needs of the membership, while sustaining itself through commercial usage.
St Mary’s RFC has always been, and always will be a family and community focussed organisation.
